Pope Francis Criticizes Vacationers To Avoid Lockdown
JAKARTA - The leader of the world Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has criticized people who choose to vacation abroad to avoid lockdowns and restrictions on activities (lockdown) in their own country.
The Pope said they should be more concerned about the suffering of others due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After giving his weekly blessing at noon, Francis said he read the news that reported many people chasing planes to circumvent government rules and seek pleasure elsewhere.
“They don't think anyone else is still staying at home, there are economic problems that many people have been affected by the lockdown, there are people who are sick. (They think) just a vacation and fun, ”Pope Francis told the congregation.
"It saddens me," Pope Francis said as quoted from a video tape broadcast from inside the library of the Pontifical Palace at the Vatican.
Usually, the angel of the Lord's prayer (angelus blessing) was given from the window of the Papal Palace facing St Square. Peter. However, during the pandemic, these activities were moved inside the palace to prevent residents from gathering and reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
“We don't know what will happen in 2021, but what we can do together is try to protect each other. (Currently, red) there is a temptation to only think about one's own interests, ”he added.
