Update On COVID-19 As Of January 2: New Cases Of 7,203, 226 People Died

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) releases the latest additional positive cases of COVID-19 today. The total cumulative cases totaled 758,473 people since the first cases were announced on March 2. Meanwhile, new positive cases per day reached 7,203 people.

There are 7,582 cases recovered today, so that a total of 625,518 people recovered. Meanwhile, 226 confirmed positive cases died and a total of 22,555 people.

The province with the most new cases was in DKI Jakarta with 1,894 new cases and a total of 187,585. DKI Jakarta is also the province with the most accumulated cases in Indonesia.

Furthermore, West Java 1,167 new cases with a total of 86,250 cases. Central Java 971 new cases with a total of 83,584 cases. East Java 723 new cases with a total of 85,762 cases. Then, South Sulawesi has 590 new cases and a total of 32,187 cases.

The province with the most cases recovered today belongs to DKI Jakarta with an increase of 2,267 recovered cases. Followed by Central Java with an increase of 924 recovered cases, West Java 916 cases, South Sulawesi 875 cases, East Java 799 recovered cases, East Kalimantan 235 cases and DI Yogyakarta 216 cases.

It was also reported that 5 provinces reported the addition of new cases under 10 today. The provinces are West Kalimantan, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, Aceh and North Maluku.

"The highest number of deaths was in Central Java Province with 86 people. Then East Java with 59 people and DKI Jakarta with 26 people," he was quoted as saying from data from the Ministry of Health, Saturday, January 2.

In addition, the number of specimens examined reached 7,429,489. In detail, 7,303,111 specimens were examined using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and 126,378 using molecular rapid tests (TCM). While the possitive rate is 15.3 percent.

"For the number of people suspected of having contracted COVID-19 or who are currently categorized as suspected cases, it is recorded at 69,619 people. Currently, 510 districts / cities from 34 provinces have COVID-19 cases," he said.
