Google Trials Its Search Engine Video Feature
JAKARTA - Google is reportedly testing a new video feature in their carousel (scrolling preview), which can display short video results from social media platforms Instagram and TikTok.
It is known, this beta or trial feature can allow users to view content from the two social media platforms directly on Google Search, without having to open the Instagram or TikTok applications.
The new video feature will show a separate "short video" just below the user's search bar. So, this layout is similar to news results or top search results.
After users open an Instagram or TikTok video from the search bar, they will be directed to the web view of each platform on the Search page.
This feature is actually similar to the autoplay feature on YouTube. If a user opens the YouTube homepage and sees a video, the video will play without the user clicking on the video.
According to the GSM Arena report, Saturday 2 January, this beta feature has been available for testing by a number of mobile users and is only available for some search items, including some NFL teams.
However, it is not yet known when Google will officially release this new feature to many users. But before it's official launch, it is hoped that Google will add more search terms and more short video formats to the beta feature.
Reportedly this beta feature will differ from the Google Discover feed and Web Stories features, which were last launched in October and focus more on content created by Google's online publishing partners.
