Underwater Drones Enter Indonesian Waters, Commission I DPR: This Is PR Minister Of Defense Prabowo Subianto

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I DPR RI Sukamta asked the government to immediately reveal the origin of foreign objects, allegedly underwater drones, which entered Indonesian waters at the end of December 2020.

The foreign object was found by fishermen in the waters of Bonerate Island, Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi, and is now being secured at the Indonesian Navy Base in Makassar.

"The government must seriously reveal the origin of the drone," said Sukamta via a short message to journalists in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Saturday, January 2.

Sukamta said that if it was true that the object was a drone owned by another country, then the government should strongly protest and take firm diplomatic action.

This is because the underwater drones have deeply entered Indonesian territory and he is worried that other drones are already roaming in Indonesian territory and taking important geographic data and Indonesia's marine potential.

"This means that our national security is very vulnerable," said Sukamta.

Furthermore, the member of the Indonesian Parliament from Yogyakarta also asked the Indonesian Navy and Bakamla to increase territorial defense by increasing marine patrols, especially at entrances to Indonesian territory.

"Of course we do not want our territory to be ransacked by foreign parties. Therefore, we must increase vigilance by carrying out strict patrols," said Sukamta.

In addition, according to the politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), this incident was also a challenge for Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to improve defense technology capabilities, especially in remote sensing.

"This is the homework of the Minister of Defense to encourage the acceleration of the development of remote sensing technology. Indonesia can cooperate with several other countries to transfer technology apart from encouraging national research to develop technology that supports a reliable defense system. More than that, the government needs to immediately improve it. the territorial security system, so that the incidents of smuggling drones do not happen again, "said Sukamta.
