The Satisfaction Of Life Is Higher For Honestly Communicating Couples About Work

YOGYAKARTA Couples who work together are important to communicate honestly about their work. According to research, couples who create a supportive home environment have a higher level of living satisfaction.

Research published in Current Psychology explains, sharing experiences with partners can bring balance. According to the author in the study, the domain of work often has a significant impact on one's welfare.

Sharing details about your work with your partner can help them better understand and support you and provide opportunities to connect and be tied to the same interests and experiences," explained Delia Virga of West University of Timosoara, Romania, as reported by Psychology Today, Monday, January 30.

The findings are inferred from 149 couple data in Romania who explore the role of work-related communication among double-income partners. Researchers found that couples who communicate openly and honestly about their work tend to have a higher level of satisfaction and relationship balance.

By talking about work, every couple can finally negotiate, build awareness, and create meaning from their experiences in the home environment.

"Communication on work is essential for the construction of social reality and in creating a supportive and satisfying home environment," Virga said.

That is, by sharing information and ideas about their work, couples can better understand and support each other, build relationships and teamwork.

In addition, the quality of communication is one of the best predictors of life satisfaction. Virga gives advice to couples to bridge communication about their work. These suggestions include:

In the work you do professionally, of course there are obligations, demands, and needs of everyone. This needs to be discussed with your partner honestly and openly. In order to stay in sync with your schedule at home, you and your partner need to remain flexible in adjusting their role responsibilities as necessary according to their top priority.

Maybe you have your own responsibilities and duties, even with your partner. But it's not wrong to share tasks or responsibilities at home. Such as washing clothes, taking care of children, or carrying out tasks according to other roles. You may even need to help your partner occasionally before they ask for them.

Show your appreciation and support for your partner's dedication while actively listening to their worries about their work. This may be as easy as showing happiness and admiration for their achievements or encouraging them to feel overwhelmed.

Avoid busy schedules, prioritize your relationship, and spend time with each other. Take it to schedule quality time with your partner to improve the quality of communication.

Even though you and your partner respect each other's professions, it's also important to be able to get out of work mode. That is, you and your partner need to have a draw position. If you find too much talking about your work, try to be a good listener. In addition, schedule new activities so that every topic you talk about is always fresh.
