"This is hard to accept ... I often ask 'why me?' then I thought, 'why not me?' So who? No one deserves this. "
JAKARTA - Shannen Doherty, actress and producer known for her American teen TV series, Beverly Hills, 90210 (BH90210), shared her story about cancer on World Cancer Day on February 4 yesterday. After recovering in 2017, the actress and producer lived a closed life for one year. Two years later, Doherty decided to open up again about his illness. This is because he does not want the public to know this information through court documents related to his suit against the insurance company. He wants the public to know from himself.
In the same year, Doherty returned to work on the BH90210 series (reboot). He admitted that he agreed to star in this series as a tribute to Luke Perry, his co-star in the first series, who had just passed away at that time. In addition, he has a mission to prove to the world that even people with cancer can work like other healthy people.
"One of the reasons I am playing in 90210 (reboot version) and not telling people about my illness is, so they know that stage 4 cancer sufferers can also work," he said.
The reboot version of BH90210 aired on Fox and finished broadcasting in August 2019. But for Doherty, it brought him back to the open, where previously he could not accept cancer as part of his life.
"This is hard to accept ... I often ask 'Why me?' then I thought, 'why not me?' So who? Indeed, no one deserves this, "said Dorothy in Good Morning America.
Currently, Shannen Doherty is active in campaigns to support animal safety and the organization Cancer Screen Week to support people with other cancers.
