Police Will Drive Residents Entering Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin On New Year's Eve
JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya will supervise the movement of people along Jalan Sudirman-MH Thamrin which is closed during New Year's Eve. The police will evict if there are still residents there.
Road closures will be carried out starting at 20.00 WIB Thursday, December 31 2020 until 06.00 WIB Friday, January 1, 2021.
"Those who enter Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin tonight will tell us to go home. There are no more people gathering and crowds. In fact, whoever walks in Sudirman-Thamrin is not allowed at all," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to journalists, Thursday, December 31st.
In addition, the police will also disperse all crowds around hotels in Jakarta. Not only that, shopping centers are also locations for mobility monitoring by the police.
"So, why does the mall close at 7 o'clock because there is an hour to remind us later. Later, we have a team with large-scale patrols and we will clean all the places," said Yusri.
As is well known, the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate decided to close Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin on New Year's Eve 2021. This decision was related to the prohibition of celebrating New Year's Day.
"There are no celebrations, no fireworks parties and so on," said Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo.
In closing the protocol road segment, said Sambodo, his party will implement a crowd free night policy. This means that Jalan Sudirman-MH Thamrin cannot be passed by either pedestrians or motorists.
"So, not only vehicles but also people who ride bicycles, walk and so on are not allowed," said Sambodo.
The police will also close Jalan Benyamin Sueb and Monas, Central Jakarta. The two areas were chosen because they are often used as gathering places on New Year's Eve.
Later the police personnel will also be deployed. The personnel will guard the two locations so that they are not used as crowd spots. In total, there are about 5,800 troop numbers that will be watching the New Years Eve crowd.
