Dominated In Cases Of Theft, 265 Cases In Garut Were Processed Restorative Justice

West Java - Garut Resort Police (Polres) implemented a restorative justice policy or restorative justice in 265 cases during 2022.

"We need to convey that the Garut Police, in this case, have resolved'retorative justice' throughout 2022 as many as 265 cases in the form of LP (police reports), as well as complaints," said Garut Police Chief AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro during a restorative justice press conference on the case of his father who took away his stepdaughter in Garut, Friday, January 27, was confiscated by Antara.

Meanwhile, in January 2023, 23 cases await the restorative justice process if both parties fully agreed to the peaceful path.

He said that the application of restorative justice to the community during 2022 was dominated by cases of theft, fraud, embezzlement, children, and women.

Likewise in January 2023, he continued, the same case was dominated as the previous year. One of them is the latest case, namely the father who took away his stepdaughter without permission in Cibalong District, causing family concerns.

"For this case, we apply restorative justice because there is no criminal element in this case. The condition of the child is also healthy, there is no element of persecution," he said.

He revealed that the reason the police enforced restorative justice was based on the leadership's rules and orders that not all criminal cases were legally or imprisoned.

Every legal issue, he said, can be resolved peacefully from both parties, if there is no peaceful way then the final process is legal action.

"We prioritize peace efforts that when reached an agreement. In accordance with our leadership's orders that law enforcement is the last step that must be taken," he said.

He added that the regulation on the application of restorative justice cannot be carried out if the threat of imprisonment is more than five years.

The sentence is under five years, he said, both parties can go through a restorative justice law, if there is no agreement then the decision is legal.

"There are small cases under five years of age we try to prioritize restorative justice, if there is no new law enforcement agreement," he said.
