Armed Men Serang Embassy Azerbaijan In Tehran: Head Of Security Died, Two Injured
JAKARTA - A security official was killed and two people injured when a gunman opened fire at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
"The striker broke through the guard post, killed the head of security with the Kalashnikov assault rifle," the ministry said.
Videos shared on social media show what looks like broken glass and damage to the doors inside the embassy building.
"Two embassy security guards were also injured while preventing attacks. Their condition is stable," the ministry continued, citing Daily Sabah.
The suspect entered the embassy with two small children and may have been motivated by "personal matters", Iran's semi-official news agency Tasnim reported, citing the police chief.
Police in Tehran said they had arrested a suspect and were investigating the motive behind the attack.
It is known, Iran and Azerbaijan share borders. Iran itself has a large ethnic population of Azerbaijan.
