JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) urges people who go home during the Christmas and New Year holidays to come back early. To avoid a build-up of traffic that is predicted to occur this weekend.
"So far, based on predictions, the peak of backflow will occur at the end of this week or Sunday (3/1). Therefore, we urge travelers to arrange travel schedules to stay comfortable and avoid traffic accumulation on Sunday. "said Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi, Thursday, December 31.
The Directorate General of Land Transportation (Dirjen Hubdat) of the Ministry of Transportation noted that during the Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021 holidays, there were 638,489 vehicle travelers from December 22 to December 27. As of Sunday December 27, about 40 percent. the vehicle is not expected to return to Jabodetabek.
Based on data collected from the Cikampek Utama, Kalihurip, Cikupa, and Ciawi toll gates, there are 254,861 vehicles that have not returned and 383,628 vehicles that returned to Jabodetabek.
Furthermore, it was also recorded that the most homecoming movements in the period 22-27 December occurred today with a total of 176,365 vehicles leaving Jakarta, with the largest number being in Cikampek Utama, east direction with 55,188 vehicles.
"We also ask people to return to Jabodetabek as early as possible. Before Sunday it would be better to avoid congestion," he added.
Director General Budi also appealed to the public to regulate the time of return, including paying attention to busy hours which are prone to congestion. "Come home early, the hour must also be arranged so that if you travel in the morning you won't be sleepy."
