Zidane Upset: Madrid Should Beat Elche

JAKARTA - Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was upset that his team could not win after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Elche on Wednesday (Thursday WIB), slipping two points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.

A Luka Modric header put Madrid ahead in the first half but they failed to capitalize on the lead and Elche equalized with a Fidel Chaves penalty after halftime.

"The sensation is not good because we had a chance and could not stop the game," said Zidane as quoted by Antara from Reuters.

"Once they scored, they closed at the back and it was very difficult for us."

Reigning champions Real have won their previous six matches in all competitions but Zidane dismissed suggestions his side had complacent against Elche, who returned to the top flight for the first time since 2015.

"I don't think we suffered from overconfidence, because we knew exactly what was at stake. The key was to find the second goal but we couldn't. It was much more difficult after they equalized even though we still created chances," said the Frenchman.

"We dropped two points today, but we have to keep going and think about our next game."

The next game for Real Madrid will be the home match against Celta Vigo who are in their best form, winning six of their last seven games and being unbeaten since 21 November.
