Flood 2 Days, 2 Elementary Schools In Kulon Progo Flash Flood
A total of two elementary schools (SD) in Kapanewon, Lendah District in Kulon Progo Regency were flooded due to heavy rains in the area from Wednesday, January 25 to early Thursday, January 26.
Head of the Kulon Progo Education, Youth and Sports Office, Arif Prastowo, said that the two SDs that were submerged in water were SD Bonosoro Jatirejo and SD Juruk Sidorejo.
"We have coordinated with the Kulon Progo BPBD and the school. Today we are cleaning," said Arif in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Thursday, January 26, as reported by Antara.
According to him, the flood that inundated Jeruk Sidorejo Elementary School made classrooms also submerged. Including the teacher's room and the school field.
Meanwhile, at SD Bonosoro, the water did not enter the classroom, it just stagnated in the yard.
"Currently, the building team assisted by the community around the school is cleaning up mud and school infrastructure that is submerged in water," said Aris.
Arif admitted that every time there was heavy rain with high intensity, two schools were submerged in water because they were close to the irrigation canal. However, his party has no discourse on relocating the school.
"Until now, we have no plan to relocate this school," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Provos Polsek Lendah Aiptu Heru Risdiyanto said his staff carried out regional patrols and the weather was raining heavily and when they arrived at SD Bonosoro Jatirejo, the river overflowed and inundated the elementary school yard, and entered the classrooms.
In terms of dirty class floor materials with mud and school yard, so far, water is still inundated.
Furthermore, the patrols shifted to the Sidorejo area and when they arrived at SD Juruk Sidorejo received an elementary school yard inundated with water including in the classroom and the wall fence collapsed.
In terms of materials on the floor of the mud lot, the glass of the lower window was broken, the school yard was muddy, the fence of the school wall collapsed.
"Until this morning the condition of the two schools above cannot be used for the teaching and learning process," he said.
