Police Ban Bandung Residents From Celebrating New Year On Flyover

JAKARTA - Head of the Operations Section (KBO) of the Bandung Traffic Police, AKP Dody Kuswanto, asked Bandung residents not to celebrate New Year's Eve by crowding a number of places, especially on flyovers or newly constructed flyovers.

According to him, now there are two new flyovers in Bandung, namely on Jalan Laswi-Pelajar Pejuang and on Jalan Jakarta-Supratman. If there is a crowd, the police will disperse to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"There will definitely be some of us who will disband, from Sabhara, we will also appeal to the public not to gather at the flyover," said Dody at the Bandung City Hall as quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 31.

Apart from the two new flyovers, there are a number of other flyovers in Bandung, such as the Pasupati flyover, which he asked not to be enlivened on New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile, the police together with the Bandung City Department of Transportation imposed the closure of 23 road points on New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Bandung, Oded M Danial, asked the public to fill the New Year's Eve with self-muhasabah by staying in their homes.

"In responding to New Year's Eve, it's best to stay at home. Doing activities at home. Especially on New Year's Eve, it's the time when we are self-absorbed," said Oded.

Therefore, he prohibits all forms of activities that create crowds and violate health protocols.

Like blowing trumpets and setting off fireworks, these activities have the potential to create a crowd.

"Euphoria like that (blowing trumpets and lighting fireworks) is not allowed, which is usually just remembrance in mosques because it causes crowds to be done at home," he said.
