Coutinho's Injury Was A Blow To Barcelona

JAKARTA - Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho had to undergo surgery to repair a torn knee or meniscus tissue during the match against Eibar on Tuesday.

The incident experienced by the Brazilian footballer adds to the long list of injured Barcelona players, including Lionel Messi.

Barcelona is currently ranked sixth in the La Liga standings, seven points adrift of Atletico Madrid who are at the top.

"The meniscus in his left knee is torn and will require surgery in the next few days," Barcelona said in a statement quoted by Antara from AFP on Wednesday.

Coutinho was recruited from Liverpool for a value of 142 million pounds or 157 million euros in 2018.

Unfortunately, Coutinho failed to reap success at Barcelona because he continued to be in the shadow of Messi.
