Electricity Consumption Increases, Aspebindo: Positive Signal For Economic Awakening
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) announced an increase in sales during the post-pandemic economic recovery period.
PLN's cumulative sales until November 2022 reached 250.4 Terawatt Hour (TWh) or grew by 6.61 percent.
This excellent performance, according to the Association of Energy, Mineral and Coal Producers of Indonesia (Aspebindo), needs to be appreciated.
The General Chairperson of Aspebindo Anggawira said that PLN had participated in boosting the Indonesian economy, which had begun to recover from COVID-19, the increase in electricity sales was one of the indicators.
"The rising electricity sales are a positive signal of our economic revival, and this is certainly inseparable from PLN's efforts when COVID-19 distributes stimuli that help the industry to survive," he told the media, Wednesday, January 25.
Previously, PLN had distributed a stimulus of IDR 24.23 trillion for economic recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This stimulus called Anggawira is important for small businesses and industries to survive.
"The economic slowdown that hit small businesses was greatly helped by the stimulus from PLN so that they could survive, so when the economy returns to normal, like now small businesses can increase production and electricity consumption increases," Anggawira continued.
He also mentioned that the challenge of PLN for the future is regarding the quality of the electrification ratio.
Even though the electrification ratio is already high, said Anggawira, PLN needs to continue to ensure quality and reliable electricity supply in order to improve the village and regional economy.
"Our electrification ratio is already high, this figure needs to be improved, especially in terms of quality, so that electricity can be relied on for economic and industrial activities, we also need to follow up on plans to reduce the use of Coal to look for primary energy which will replace Coal, especially the ability of new and renewable energy sources to meet our rising electricity needs," said Anggawira.
Just so you know, PT PLN (Persero) said the ratio of villages that have enjoyed electricity has now reached 99.78 percent with a total of 83,280 villages until November 2022.
