Remember, 12 Gross Human Rights Violations Are Still Stagnant

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) reminded the Attorney General's Office to immediately follow up on 12 investigation files of gross human rights violations that have been stagnant so far.

"Concerning the resolution of gross human rights violations, there are 12 Komnas HAM investigation files that have yet to be forwarded by the Attorney General to the investigation stage," said Komnas HAM Chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik at an online press conference for the 2020 Human Rights Record in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, December 30th.

In accordance with President Joko Widodo's promise, he said, the completion of incidents of gross human rights violations cannot be postponed any longer and must be realized in the form of strong and concrete political will.

Ahmad Taufan Damanik said that the clarity of the 12 cases was important to fulfill a sense of justice for victims and victims' families and ward off fears of impunity.

According to him, in commemoration of World Human Rights Day on December 10, 2020 and the Working Meeting of the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office, President Jokowi showed a good signal by ordering the AGO to make concrete progress in resolving cases of past gross human rights violations.

Cases of serious human rights violations whose investigations have been resolved by Komnas HAM are the Trisakti, Semanggi I and Semanggi II 1998 incidents in DKI Jakarta, the May 1998 riots that occurred in various provinces, the Wasior Incident 2001-2001 and Wamena 2003 in Papua / West Papua and the Incident of Disappearances. Forcibly in 1997–1998 in various provinces.

Furthermore, the Talangsari Incident in 1989 in Lampung, the 1965-1966 Incident in various regions, the 1982-1985 Mysterious Shooting Incident, the KKA Intersection Incident and the Jambu Keupok Incident in Aceh, the 1998 Shaman Murder Incident in West Java and East Java, the 1989 Rumoh Geudong Incident in Aceh, and the 2014 Paniai Incident in Papua.
