Toyota Leads The National Automotive Market In 2022 By Successfully Selling 331,410 Units
JAKARTA - Toyota closed 2022 with a sales volume of 331,410 units on a wholesale basis, up 12.1 percent from 2021, making the Japanese company lead the Indonesian automotive market with a market share of 31.6 percent.
Toyota assesses that this growth is influenced by the recovery of the national economy and an increase in people's purchasing power after the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the past two years.
"In line with the improvement in the national economy and the increase in people's purchasing power, it has had a positive impact on the sales performance of the automotive industry, including Toyota," said Vice President of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Henry Tanoto in a press release, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, January 25.
Tanoto said that his party was grateful that until now it was still able to run in harmony with the market and maintain a positive trend of sales growth throughout 2022 by reaching more than 331,000 units.
He hopes that this trend will continue to move in a positive direction so that Toyota can contribute to improving the economy, while meeting the mobility needs of various customers.
In terms of composition, Toyota's sales in 2022 will still be dominated by the MPV segment, which contributes 57.6 percent.
Some of Toyota's MPV and SUV lines such as Avanza, Kijang Innova and Kijang Innova Zenix, as well as Rush are still the people's top choice and lead as Toyota's three best-selling cars this year.
This is reflected in Avanza sales figures in 2022 which managed to reach 60,619 units, an increase of 49 percent compared to the same period in 2021 of 40,777 units.
When combined with Veloz, the sales figures for Avanza and Veloz reach 92,641 units. In addition, the Kijang Innova, which was recently upgraded to Kijang Innova Zenix, managed to record sales of a total of 46,933 units. Combined, the total sales of Toyota's MPV segment control more than 52 percent of the national MPV market.
The electrification vehicle segment is also showing an increasingly positive trend this year. Total wholesale sales have reached 4,463 units, a significant increase of 130 percent from 2021 which closed at 1,935 units.
This achievement was supported by the presence of the first battery electric vehicle, the Toyota bZ4X and the first locally produced plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Kijang Innova Zenix.
"This result will certainly be the basis for Toyota in developing technology that is in line with the needs of people's mobility and is more environmentally friendly," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor Anton Jimmi Suwandy.
