The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Has Arrested The Former GAM Commander Izil Azhar In Banda Aceh Who Has Been In Buron Since 2018

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested their fugitive, former Commander of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) Izil Azhar. He was arrested on Tuesday, January 24.

"It's true, with the help of a team from the NAD Police, the team managed to find the KPK DPO on behalf of Izil Azhar," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Tuesday, January 24.

He was arrested around Banda Aceh after being on the run since November 30, 2018. The arrests were made after the KPK and the Aceh Police coordinated since 2022.

"Next, the DPO will soon be taken to Jakarta for further processing," he said.

At first glance about Izil Azhar, he was named a suspect along with former Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf in 2018. He is suspected of receiving gratuities of Rp32.45 billion related to the Sabang dock construction project.

Apart from Izil, there are still four KPK fugitives who still have to be pursued. They include former 2019 legislative candidate Harun Masiku who bribed former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.
