Plus Mine Makes Mental Health Content Social Media
JAKARTA - The presence of social media in this era also encourages a person to stand out more as a place for self-actualization. Many people then try to go all out to look different for the sake of content on social media.
In fact, mental health is also content on social media in order to get attention. In fact, the best step to overcome mental health problems is to seek help, not by romanticizing mental problems to get more attention than others.
According to clinical psychologist Tara Adhisti de Thouars from the University of Indonesia, amid the demands of a very high life sometimes there are people who add to the demands by suppressing themselves too much, criticizing themselves and comparing with others.
"This actually makes the mental condition of the problem worse," Tara said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 24.
In fact, according to Tara, there are many positive ways that a person can do to become meaningful or seen by others without having to harm themselves.
"I feel that social media makes the younger generation at this time feel they have to stand out, especially Gen-Z or teenagers who still need to find their identity," said Tara.
Tara reminded that what is seen on social media usually only shows a good side. "Maybe some people can stand out not in the right way," Tara said.
Self-awareness or self-awareness in understanding oneself, continued Tara, is the first step to avoid mental problems. This includes a person's willingness to see the body and mental condition and immediately do something when finding problems so they don't get worse.
"That's why it's important there is a moment to take a break first to really objectively see 'do I have to be like this or not?', 'Is this excessive or not?', 'Can I still accept this or maybe I'm tired?' If it really feels like I've harmed myself then do something," concluded Tara.
