Jokowi Admits That It Is Not Easy To Eliminate Floods In Jakarta

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to consistently reduce flooding. Starting from river normalization to construction of giant sea wall or "giant sea wall".

"There is still such a thing as tidal flooding, the sea embankment has not been completed, from the coast here it has not been completed. It is not an easy job. But if we are consistent with it, we will reduce it, reduce it, until it finally disappears," said President Jokowi after reviewing the project for the construction of the Ciliwung River Sodetan in the East Flood Canal, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 24, as reported by Antara.

The construction of the Ciliwung River Sodetan which is targeted to function in April is projected to reduce inundation and flooding in Jakarta.

The Ciliwung River drain, which has been delayed by six years of completion, can reduce to 63 cubic meters per second if the water level in Jakarta reaches standby I.

In addition to the Ciliwung River Sodetan, the normalization of 12 rivers must also continue to be carried out to maximize the reduction of inundation.

"If this is done, the business is only pump matters, those in rivers, as well as normalization of Ciliwung and normalization of the existing 12 rivers, Pesanggrahan River, Angke River, Cipinang, and others," he said.

Then for tidal flooding on the north coast, the Head of State has ordered the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to complete the construction of giant sea embankments and sea embankments.

On the same occasion accompanying President Jokowi, Acting Governor of DKI Heru Budi Hartono said that the construction of a giant sea wall or Giant Sea Wall is in the planning stage.

"We have also coordinated with Bappenas, coordinated with the Ministry (Kerautan) of Fisheries, perhaps in the stage of the planning maturation process," he said.

The construction of a giant sea wall experienced the dynamics of the concept which was discussed from 2007 to 2020.

The concept discussed in 2020 will again be finalized between the DKI Provincial Government and the Central Government.

Heru targets the development concept to be completed in about three months between the DKI Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
