Deputy Minister Of Law And Human Rights: 35 People Related To FPI Involved In Terrorism, 206 People In General Crimes

JAKARTA - The government has opened data on the involvement of members or who have joined the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) in connection with criminal acts. This criminal case becomes one of the grounds for the government to prohibit all FPI activities.

"Based on data, the management and members of FPI are 35 people involved in criminal acts of terrorism and 29 of them have been convicted. In addition, a total of 206 people were involved in other general crimes, 100 of whom have been convicted, "said Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej.

Prof. Eddy Hiariej read out a joint decree regarding the prohibition of activities, the use of symbols and attributes and the termination of FPI activities. The government emphasizes that FPI is considered disbanded since June 20, 2019.

"The Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs on June 20, 2014 regarding FPI's registered certificate as a social organization is valid until June 20 2019 and until now FPI has not met the requirements to extend the SKT de jure on June 20, 2019, FPI is considered dissolved," said the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD explained de jure, FPI since 20 June 2019 has disbanded as a mass organization. However, FPI as an organization is considered by the government to carry out activities that violate order, security and are against the law.

"The government prohibits FPI activities and will stop any activities carried out by FPI because FPI no longer has a legal standing either as a mass organization or as an ordinary organization," said Mahfud.

The prohibition of FPI activities is outlined in a joint decision namely the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), the Minister of Law and Human Rights, the Minister of Communication and Information, the Attorney General, the National Police Chief and the Head of the Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).
