After 20 Days, Vietnam Was Able To Evacuate The Body Of A Boy Who Was Mired By A Hole 35 Meters Deep

JAKARTA - A 10-year-old boy who fell into a narrow open hole from a concrete pile at a construction site on New Year's Eve, is confirmed dead.

The rescue team spent nearly 100 hours trying to free Thai Ly Hao Nam from a 35-meter-deep hole. But failed.

And even sadder, the body of Thai Ly Hao Nam has not been successfully evacuated.

However, Friday, January 20 yesterday, the Vietnam rescue team finally managed to pull Thai Ly Hao Nam from a porous concrete pillar at the construction site, state media said as quoted by Channel News Asia, Saturday, January 21.

Thai Ly Hao Nam fell into the axis of the 25 cm wide pillar - sinking 35 m as part of a new bridge - apparently while looking for scrap metal on December 31 last year.

Hundreds of rescuers, including soldiers and engineering experts, were deployed to locations in Dong Thap province in Delta Mekong.

"The rescue lasted a very long time. Because there is land around the pillars, the boy's body is still intact," said Deputy Chairman of the Provincial Committee Doan Tan Buu, Friday.

The boy's body has been returned to the family for burial.
