PSG Fires Thomas Tuchel

JAKARTA - French League giants Paris Saint Germain officially sacked coach Thomas Tuchel on Tuesday, December 29. However, they have not announced a replacement.

"After conducting an in-depth analysis of the current sporting situation, PSG decided to terminate Thomas Tuchel's contract," the club said on their official website.

The former PSG player and Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is believed to be a number of parties who will fill the hot seat.

Tuchel, whose dismissal has been rumored since last week but has not been confirmed, has coached PSG since July 2018. He has been coached at PSG in 127 games in all competitions, with 95 wins, 12 draws and 20 defeats.

His streak for the capital club includes two French League titles, as well as one French Cup and one French League Cup in 2020.

The German also led PSG to the Champions League final for the first time in their history last August, but lost 0-1 to Bayern Munich.

Although he looks like he can nurture a star-studded PSG squad such as Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Tuchel reportedly angered club officials after complaining about the lack of appreciation when bringing PSG to the Champions League final.

"I want to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for all their contributions to the club," said PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi.

"Thomas has given a lot of energy and passion to this work, and we will certainly remember the good times we spent together. I wish him all the best for his future," he added.

Less than three months after losing to Bayern in Lisbon, Tuchel became the first PSG coach to leave mid-season since Antoine Koumbouare was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti in December 2011.
