Proven To Help Joko Tjandra To Bribe Police Officers, Tommy Sumardi Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - A close friend of Joko Tjandra, Tommy Sumardi, was sentenced to two years in prison by a panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court. Tommy is considered proven to have helped Joko Tjandra to bribe two high-ranking police officers.

The two top police officers are Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte for 370 thousand US dollars and 200 thousand Singapore dollars and Brigjen Prasetijo Utomo for 100 thousand US dollars.

"Decided, declared the defendant Tommy Sumardi legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption jointly. Imposing a 2-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp100 million provided that if the fine is not paid then it is replaced by imprisonment for 6 months. , "said Chief Justice Muhammad Damis at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) as reported by Antara, Tuesday, December 29.

The verdict is heavier than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Attorney General's Office, who asked Tommy to be sentenced to 1.5 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 100 million, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison.

Tommy is proven to have committed an act like the first indictment, namely Article 5 paragraph 2 Jo. Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a Law no. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law no. 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crime Jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

"What is burdensome is that the defendant did not support the government in the context of eradicating KKN, the defendant committed a similar crime committed by the defendant in the area of the Corruption Crime Court, which is a relatively high number and the defendant committed a criminal act together with the convict and law enforcement officials," added Judge Damis.

Meanwhile, the mitigating thing is that Tommy is considered to be polite, has never been convicted, has been appointed as a witness to the perpetrator who cooperates with law enforcement (JC), admits and regrets his actions and still has family responsibilities.

Tommy in this case brokered bribes convicted of the Bank Bali "cessie" corruption case Djoko Tjandra to the former Head of the National Police's International Relations Division, Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte, worth 370 thousand US dollars and 200 thousand Singapore dollars and also to the former Head of the Coordinating and Supervision Bureau (Kakorwas) Investigators Bareskrim Polri Civil Servant (PPNS) Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo amounting to 100 thousand US dollars.

The purpose of giving the money was for Napoleon Bonaparte to remove Djoko Tjandra's name from the wanted list (DPO) at the Directorate General of Immigration.

Around April 2020, Djoko Tjandra contacted Tommmy Sumardi to discuss ways that Djoko Tjandra could enter Indonesia to file a Judicial Review (PK) on the Bank Bali corruption case because he received information that the Interpol Red Notice on him had been opened by the Central Interpol in Lyon, France.

In order for Djoko Tjandra to enter Indonesia, he is willing to give Rp10 billion through Tommy Sumardi to be given to parties who take care of Djoko's interests in entering Indonesia, especially to officials at NCB Interpol Indonesia in the Police International Relations Division.

Regarding the verdict, Tommy and the prosecutor at the Attorney General's Office expressed their thoughts for 7 days.
