Surabaya Will Hold Trumpet Trader Raids In 31 Districts

JAKARTA - Raids for trumpet traders are planned simultaneously in 31 sub-districts of Surabaya City, East Java, ahead of the New Year's Eve 2021 as an effort to prevent potential transmission of COVID-19 through droplets or saliva splashes.

The acting (Plt) Mayor of Surabaya, Whisnu Sakti Buana, said that simultaneous supervision or raids are not only in places where there is a potential for crowds, but also in markets, shops, shopping centers to the border or entrance to the city of Surabaya.

"What is certain is that there will be a large-scale operation. We have instructed the sub-district head to prohibit the sale of trumpets and to limit the sale of fireworks," said Whisnu, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 29.

In addition, continued Whisnu, the Surabaya City Government has also issued a circular regarding restrictions on operational business activities in Surabaya on New Year's Eve. Limitation on business operations on December 31, 2020, which is only until 20.00 WIB.

"All (business activities) at 20.00 WIB closed on New Year's Eve. We have decided it together with Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Communication Forum) and later we will also emphasize it, disseminate it through the sub-district heads," he said.

Head of Surabaya Satpol PP Eddy Cristijanto said that during New Year's Eve, his party has tightened security, especially in crowded centers such as malls, cafes and restaurants.

According to him, the Surabaya City Government has issued a circular to business actors such as malls, restaurants and cafes so that operating hours at New Year's Eve, namely December 31, 2020, are limited to 20.00 WIB.

Eddy said that business actors who still violate operating hours regulations will be subjected to strict administrative sanctions.

In addition, he continued, his party also appealed to residents not to hold activities that caused crowds at New Year's Eve, either in public places or in residential villages.

"For New Years Eve celebrations, direct instructions are to abolish New Years Eve celebrations. Villages are also not allowed to carry out New Years Eve celebrations," he said.
