Locations Of Bloody Clashes In PT GNI Ready To Operate Again, 548 TNI-Polri Personnel And 2 Brimob SSK Become Security
JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that PT Gunbutter Nickel Industry (GNI) will soon resume operations. The company made the decision after seeing the security readiness provided by the government.
The National Police Chief said the National Police had deployed 548 joint personnel. Not to mention the preparations for bringing in 2 Brimob SSK reinforcements.
"So the decision to operate again was decided by the company after seeing that in terms of security that we have prepared, everything is supportive for activities to be operational again," said the National Police Chief, Monday, January 16.
"And I think this is also part of our commitment to ensure that the company's operations, from the industry, can run and the National Police, assisted by the TNI, are ready to oversee and secure," continued General Sigit at the Presidential Office.
Sigit said the certainty of this security would also have an impact on TKI working at PT Gunbuter Nickel Industry. And this smelter activity, he continued, also has added value for the state, especially in terms of adding foreign exchange related to the downstream industry program.
Previously, the Head of Human Resources and General Affairs of PT GNI Muknis Basri Assegaf denied the issue of mistreatment of foreign workers against citizen workers (WNI) and violence against female workers. He said the attack on employees occurred during factory operating hours so that activities were stopped and caused severe damage.
He said the looting occurred against 100 mess employees of Indonesian citizens and foreigners. As well as about six heavy equipment and operating vehicles belonging to the company caught fire.
"They also attacked foreign workers to stop working. And after the riots emerged, they then set fire to and looted the mess of women local workers, and looted the TNI mess and then burned it," said Muknis.
Muknis said that in the bloody clashes, the North Morowali Police managed to secure 70 suspected perpetrators. As a result of the incident, he said, two people were killed, nine people were injured.
