Jokowi Orders 3 Ministers To Gather Indonesian Citizens Surviving Serious Human Rights Violations In Eastern Europe
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered three ministers to gather Indonesian citizens (WNI) survivors or victims of past gross human rights violations (HAM) who are still in Eastern Europe. This effort is in the context of restoring the rights of survivors.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD after attending a limited meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday, January 16.
"Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Law and Human Rights (as assigned)," he said.
Mahfud said that later the victims would be gathered in Genewa, Switzerland; Amsterdam, the Netherlands or in Russia.
He emphasized that the victims have the rights as Indonesian citizens.
"The Minister of Law and Human Rights together with the Foreign Minister and I were assigned to prepare for this so that later the message would also be abroad and this team would not play games," he said.
Meanwhile, President Jokowi, said Mahfud, will immediately meet with victims or relatives in the country such as in Aceh, Papua, Lampung. According to him, the President will provide compensation to all victims of gross human rights violations.
"Yes, everything is the point and not only the victims of the G30S, we also provide compensation for other victims," he said.
