BPBD: There Have Been No Reports Of Damage Related To The 5 Magnitude Earthquake In Bogor

The Head of the Bogor City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Theofilo Patrocinio Freitas stated that there had been no reports of damage or casualties related to the impact of the 5 magnitude earthquake which occurred 25 kilometers northwest of Bogor City.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5 occurred in an epicenter at a depth of 132 kilometers about 25 kilometers northwest of Bogor City, West Java, precisely in Cigudeg District, Bogor Regency on Sunday, January 15 at 03.32.19 WIB.

"Regarding the impact of the earthquake at dawn so far, there have been no reports of entry from the community or local regional officials," he said, as reported by Antara.

Theofilo detailed the report submitted by BMKG regarding the earthquake that occurred in the early hours of the morning.

On Sunday at 03.32.19 WIB, the Cigudeg District, Bogor Regency, West Java was rocked by a tectonic earthquake.

The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has updated parameters with a magnitude of M4.7. The epicenter of the earthquake is at coordinates 6.52 degrees South Latitude, 106.58 degrees East Longitude, or precisely located on land in the Cigudeg District, Bogor Regency, West Java at a depth of 146 km.

Taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type of earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian plate which plunged under the Eurasian plate. The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a downward movement mechanism or a normal fault.

Based on the estimation of the shock map or shakemap of this earthquake caused shocks in the Cikeusik area, Bogor Regency with an intensity scale of III MMI with vibrations felt real in the house.

There was a vibration as if a truck had passed in Jasinga District, Bogor Regency with an intensity scale of II MMI until the vibrations were felt by several people, light objects that were hung swayed.

Until now there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.

As of 03.55 WIB, the results of BMKG monitoring have not shown any aftershock activity.

BMKG appealed to the public to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified and avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake.

In addition, check and make sure the residential buildings are earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return to the house.
