For 3 Minutes, Mount Marapi Launchs 1 Kilometer Of Eruption

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 5.1 mm. While the duration of the eruption is approximately 3 minutes 4 seconds.

The eruption was clearly visible from the City of Bukittinggi and Agam Regency because Mount Marapi was not blocked by fog and clouds this afternoon.

"The height is the same as 3,891 meters above sea level, the ash column is observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards northeast and southeast," he said.

Mount Marapi is still at Level II (Alert) status with the recommendation that the surrounding community is prohibited from approaching up to a radius of three kilometers from the summit.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that Mount Marapi experienced hundreds of eruptions within five days from Saturday (7/1) to Wednesday (11/1).

A total of 134 eruptions occurred with several heights of ash ejection varying. "The most eruptions occurred on Monday (9/1) with 35 eruptions," said Teguh Purnomo.

The local community hopes that the intensity of the eruption of Mount Marapi will decrease again so that there are no concerns about the bad effects that may occur.

"People are still active normally, but the eruption, better known as "kapundan" here, is certainly dangerous if it continues and gets bigger," said Nagari Government official Bukit Batabuah, Firdaus.

He said there were 1,400 residents who were at the nearest location from the peak of Marapi in Rubai Hamlet and Gobah Tumantiang Jorong Batang Salasiah at an altitude of about 1,400 meters above sea level.

"We continue to monitor and coordinate with related parties, the warning has been made from the announcement of the prayer room and other loudspeakers, hopefully Marapi will be fine again," he said.
