The Cianjur Religious Court Received 177 Early Marriage Cases, The Majority Of Whom Were Driven By Pre-Pregnancy And Parents' Pressure

CIANJUR - Class 1A Cianjur Religious Court, West Java, noted that throughout 2022 177 cases of marriage dispensation or early marriage were received under 19 years.Head of Public Relations of the Cianjur Class 1A Religious Court, Mumu Mukmin Muksin, said the main factor was early marriage because of parents' concerns about their child's association and because they were pregnant first."The process of marriage dispensation is quite complicated, having to go through trial at the Religious Court by the Child Judge by presenting the parents of the bride and groom. The trial is specifically, closed, single, without attributes," he said in Cianjur, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 11.He explained that in the trial the court's marriage dispensation would convey the risk of early marriage, including being prone to divorce, being prone to problems with the womb because it was still a minor, and other risks were prone to domestic violence (KDRT)."We will ask the women whether there is an element of coercion or not, otherwise we will marry, if there is any doubt, we will vacate the courtroom to find the best solution," he said.Referring to Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage, said Mumu, women aged 16 are allowed to get married, but the regulations change with the issuance of Law No. 16 of 2019 concerning marriage, where the bride and groom must be 19 years old."Because there has been a change in the Law in 2019, the number of cases of marriage dispensation has increased. Most of it is due to the factor of parents' concerns about child associations," he said.
