Kremlin Reviewing Consequences For Countries Supporting The Confiscation Of Russian Assets
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned of firm consequences for any country, which is trying to support Russia's asset confiscation initiative, assessing illegal as far as international law concerns, referring to Estonia's plans to confiscate Russian assets.
"It is clear that Estonian authorities want to be outstanding people in this field and to set a kind of precedent. Whatever action they take in this context, they will be completely null and void from an international legal point of view," Peskov said. January 10.
"And, of course, they will have consequences for countries that at least side with such ideas," Peskov warned.
Previously, Bloomberg reported that Estonia plans to introduce a legal blueprint to confiscate Russian assets this month.
In December, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said EU members "need to take steps forward to secure accountability for crimes of aggression and use frozen Russian assets."
"Einstein's anti-money laundering authority estimates that the frozen funds in Russia's accounts in the country amount to nearly 20 million euros," wrote Bloomberg.
