Regional Head 4 Pelindo Enrique Muis said PT Pelindo Regional 4 recorded that the total number of passengers who boarded and fell at Makassar Port during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year holidays reached 79,256 people.

"This number has doubled compared to the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays, which are only 37,763 passengers," said Enriquey as quoted by Antara, Monday, January 10.

General Manager (GM) of Pelindo Regional 4 Makassar, Suhadi Hamid admitted that during the 2022 Christmas and New Year 2023 holidays, his party had made various efforts and preparations to anticipate a surge in passengers at Makassar Port.

"Among other things, we have built a temporary waiting room that is non-permanent for prospective passengers and advanced passengers so that they can rest comfortably," he said.

With an area of about 270 square meters, he continued, it could accommodate approximately 200 people.

In addition, his party also always anticipates passenger baggage, in collaboration with PT Pelni to prepare consolidation areas so that the management of goods becomes more orderly.

Especially in the Makassar Port Passenger Terminal area, reading spaces have also been prepared, spaces for breastfeeding and for disabilities.

"Especially for the temporary waiting room, it is intended for those who transit or wait for the ship to continue," said Suhadi.
