2022 AFF Cup: No Shocks, The Indonesian National Team Failed To Go To The Final After Unpowered At The Vietnam Headquarters

JAKARTA The Indonesian national team failed to get a ticket to the 2022 AFF Cup final after losing 0-2 to Vietnam in the second leg match at My Dinh Stadium, Monday, January 9 evening WIB.

Vietnam qualified 2-0 on aggregate after the first leg which took place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, a few days ago, ended in a 0-0 draw. The game only lasted three minutes, Indonesia immediately missed Nguyen Tien Linh's goal. He recorded his name on the scoreboard maximizing Hung Dung Do's long pass.

In the 24th minute, Indonesia threatened again in the penalty box. Dendy Sulistyawan got the ball, but he found no room to shoot before being followed by the opposing defender.

Fachruddin Aryanto also had a chance with a header in extra minutes, but to no avail so that the hosts' advantage lasted until the break.

Two minutes after halftime, the Garuda squad conceded again. Nguyen Tien Linh re-carried his name on the scoreboard with a header from a corner by Hung Dung Do.

Mr. Hai Pham almost added the score in the 59th minute. Luckily, his flick in the penalty box could still be reached by Nadeo Argawinata.

In the 64th minute, Marselino Ferdinand sent a pass to Witan Sulaeman who was in the penalty box. However, the bait was too close to the home goalkeeper.

Indonesia continues to struggle to attack Vietnam's defense in the remaining time. However, the defense of Park Hang Seo's foster children was too tough until the long whistle signaled the match was over.

This defeat made Indonesia's dream of getting the first title failed. So far, Garuda's best achievement from the 13 editions that have been held is six times as runners-up.

This victory made Vietnam's hopes of winning their third title alive. The Golden Stars have previously won in 2008 and 2018.

In the final, Vietnam will meet the winners from Malaysia or Thailand who will only play their second leg match on Tuesday.
