PSI On Asking For Funds For Political Parties To Be Increased, William: Recommendations For KPK Policies To Suppress Corruption
JAKARTA - Circulating on social media about the recorded statement of the member of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, William Aditya Sarana, asking for political party aid funds in the DPRD to be increased.
"Is it possible? If the banpol funds are increased, sir. Now we are Rp.5,000 per vote. Maybe we can increase it again per vote. We want it, if we (PSI) propose Rp. 7,000, Rp. 20,000 or ceban," he said. William is on record.
When confirmed, William confirmed that he had made this remark. However, he said, the context of the sentence conveyed regarding the increase in banpol funds was responding to policy recommendations from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and LIPI.
William said government funding for political parties is needed to strengthen democracy and suppress corruption by public officials from political parties.
"The context is that I have studied and conveyed the recommendation of the KPK and LIPI that political parties must have sound finances to operate, so that the potential for political corruption can be suppressed. This is the spirit," William said on Saturday, December 26.
Unfortunately, according to him, the circulated recordings were incomplete. The tape is dismembered and is not a complete discussion. This is because there is a further statement from William stating that PSI has not proposed an increase in political party funds.
"Given that currently Jakarta is still in a pandemic condition and economic difficulties, the discussion of increasing funding for political parties by the government is irrelevant," he said.
He continued, in principle, PSI's final stance regarding the APBD was read out formally and in writing in the Faction's General View at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Plenary Session on November 27, 2020.
"In accordance with the recommendations of the KPK and LIPI, public funding needs to be just a matter of timing. Is it appropriate or not? Due to the irrelevant context, PSI does not encourage an increase in Banpol funds," he added.
