PT TWC Target 2.2 Million Tourists Visiting Borobudur Temple In 2023

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (TWC) are targeting tourists visiting Borobudur Temple in 2023 as many as 2.2 million people, both foreign and domestic tourists.

General Manager of PT TWC Borobudur Unit, Jamaludin Mawardi hopes that this year, visitors can go up to the temple building. So that it can attract tourists to visit Borobudur Temple.

"With tourists being allowed to go up to the temple building, of course, this has more or less started to erase the stigma that visiting Borobudur Temple is expensive," he said in a written statement Wednesday, December 4.

Jamaludin admitted that the target for visiting as many as 1.6 million people could not be met 100 percent by 2022. Of the targets installed, only 92 percent was able to achieve.

In fact, continued Jamaludin, TWC hopes that the target for the visit can be closed during the busy Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023 holidays.

He added that the company's estimation at the peak of the visit could reach 24,000 people. However, the realization is only about 11,000 people on December 27, 2022.

"But the conditions are also not encouraging," he said.

Jamaludin said, during the Christmas and New Year 2023 holidays, the average number of visitors was around 9,000 to 10,000 people per day.

However, Jamaludin hopes that with the lifting of the government's implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM), tourist visits to the world's largest Buddhist temple will increase.
