Who Is Pahala Nugraha Mansury, The Banker Who Is Now Deputy Minister Of BUMN?

JAKARTA - Pahala Nugraha Mansury officially serves as Deputy Minister of BUMN I replacing Budi Gunadi Sadikin who was appointed by President Joko Widodo as Minister of Health. The inauguration took place at the State Palace, Wednesday, December 23.

The appointment of this reward is based on Presidential Decree Number 76 / M 2020 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Deputy Ministers of the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet for the period 2019-2024.

After being inaugurated, Pahala admitted that he was contacted directly by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir regarding his appointment to replace Budi Gunadi Sadikin as Deputy Minister of BUMN.

"Of course, because we, as Deputy Minister of BUMN, have the duty to assist the SOE Minister, who contacted us as well as Minister Erick Thohir at that time," he said, in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 23.

Pahala also thanked Jokowi for trusting him to fill the Wamen BUMN seat. "First, of course, we want to thank the President who has entrusted us (me) to replace Pak Budi Gunadi Sadikin as Deputy Minister of BUMN," he said.

Furthermore, Pahala said, Erick also advised himself regarding the vision and program of the Ministry of BUMN which must be followed up in the future. Particularly is the transformation of state-owned companies which is the main step of the Minister of BUMN.

On that occasion, Pahala also said that his relationship with Erick had been around for a long time.

"He also conveyed the vision and a number of things that we need to follow up on. His direction was how we at BUMN can continue to carry out transformation, create value, and beyond that it can give impact and benefit to the wider community," he explained.

Pahala Nugraha Mansury was born in Bogor, April 8, 1971. His name has crisscrossed the financial and banking industry. He previously served as the President Director of BTN. Before becoming president director, he held the position of Finance Director of PT Pertamina (Persero).

Pahala received a bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia (UI). Meanwhile, he obtained an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Business, New York University, United States (US).

However, Pahala's career journey did not start in banking. Initially he was a management consultant at Andersen Consulting until 1997. Then, in 1998, Pahala worked part time in a securities company in New York. His career as a consultant started brightly.

Pahala returned to being a consultant when he joined Booz Allen & Hamilton as a senior consultant for one year in 1999. However, his work did intersect with the banking world. In the same year, he briefly joined the Boston Consulting Group as a leader in several banking projects.

Starting in 2003, Pahala began his career at PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. His career as a banker continued to improve so that Bank Mandiri became an important foothold in his history.

After seven years, to be precise in 2010, Pahala's career immediately took off by taking over as one of the directors, namely EVP Finance & Strategy Coordinator and Chief Financial Officer of Bank Mandiri.

Pahala then expanded into the aviation business. In April 2017, Pahala was entrusted with being the President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. He served as the number one state-owned airline for 17 months before finally being shifted to become Pertamina's Finance Director.
