BOYOLALI - The Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries (Disnakkan) of Boyolali Regency said the deaths of thousands of floating net cages (KJA) in the Kedung Ombo Reservoir (WKO) Wonoharjo Village, Kemusu District, in Central Java Province, were due to the phenomenon of Up-Welling and dropping oxygen.Head of Fisheries Division, Disnakkan Boyolali Regency, Nurul Nugroho, said thousands of dead fish belonging to the KJA farmer group in WKO were due to ammonia poisoning from up-welling and oxygen drop (DO) phenomena."The cause is weather in one week without sunlight so that the water level condition of the reservoir is cold, then there is an up-welling phenomenon and oxygen drop," said Nurul Nugroho in Boyolali, Antara, Monday, January 2.According to Nurul, the efforts that have been made by moving the cages to a point that is safe from up-welling, and pumped using water diesel to increase the DO (Oxygen).His party recommended to the KJA farmer group to immediately harvest fish that have entered the selling size, monitor water quality regularly, efficiency in providing fish feed at KJA WKO, rationalize the number of KJA in WKO, re-zoned KJA in WKO, application to the KJA SMART system for environmentally friendly fish cultivation in WKO.The steps that have been taken by Disnakkan include collecting data and verifying the number of dead fish and the number of affected cultivation, coordinating with relevant leaders and stakeholders for further handling and forming a team to monitor water quality and data collection at WKO.Mass death of fish due to the Up-welling phenomenon itself is an annual cycle and it often occurs in almost all reservoirs with KJA fish cultivation.It is very necessary to provide assistance and awareness to the KJA group about the importance of monitoring water quality, controlling KJA cultivation and implementing environmentally friendly technology in KJA cultivation.Mass death of fish in KJA Kedung Ombo Reservoir due to the Up Welling phenomenon in Wonoharjo Kemusu Boyolali Village, last Saturday at around 07.00 WIB. The number of dead types of gold and tilapia fish as of Monday at 13.30 WIB was 175 tons.The number of fish that died from the KJA farmer group was 32 members and the loss was estimated at around Rp. 4.725 billion.Meanwhile, Marno (38), one of the KJA farmers in Wonoharjo Kemusu Boyolali Village, said that gold and tilapia fish cultivated in the Kedung Ombo Reservoir had experienced mass death since Saturday (31/12).According to him, his total dead fish reached 2 tons out of a total of about 20 tons. Bad weather is the cause of the death of fish. The weather was cold and there was no heat, oxygen was reduced and up welling came out from below, such as poison causing fish to die.Marno admitted that as a result of this incident, he suffered losses of billions of rupiah. The current fish price is in the range of IDR 25,000 to IDR 26,000 per kilogram.
