Landmines From War Found In A Field In Pariaman

JAKARTA - The Bomb Squash Team (Jibom), Gegana Detachment, Brimob Unit of the West Sumatra Regional Police again detonated military explosives left over from the war found by residents of Kota Pariaman.

"This time, a landmine type military explosive was found by residents in a field in Pondok II Village, Central Pariaman District yesterday," said Kapolres Pariaman, AKBP Deny Rendra Laksmana in Pariaman, reported by Antara, Wednesday, December 23.

The landmine was found by a resident of Kelurahan Pondok II, namely Rudi (30) in a sweet potato field owned by a local resident, namely Uncu Men (45).

He said, after the discovery, residents immediately reported to the Pariaman Police and his party also conveyed the findings to the West Sumatra Regional Police.

To follow up the discovery of the explosives that are suspected to be legacy of the war, disposal is carried out by detonating it.

The detonation of landmines was also carried out at the site of the destruction of pineapple grenades on November 28, 2020, at GOR Rawang, Central Pariaman District.

"Pariaman has a history as a battleground for the Dutch and the PRRI (Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia), so we urge residents to find an object suspected of being a bomb to immediately report it to the police," he said.

Previously, the Gegana Bomb Dismantling Team (Jibom), West Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade detonated a unit of pineapple type grenades suspected to have been left over from decades of war which was found by local residents while digging the foundations for house construction.

"The grenade was found by residents in South Pariaman District at around 17.00 WIB yesterday," said Deny after the grenade detonation.

After finding the grenade, the residents reported their discovery to the local police, so they immediately went to the location to provide security.

According to him, the grenade is thought to be a remnant of the world war period or when the war was fought during the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia so that the potential for its existence in the regions is still there.

"The possibility still exists because Pariaman is a place of resistance against the Dutch," he said.
