Reflecting On Juliari Batubara, Risma: All Aid Is Distributed Electronically

JAKARTA - After being inaugurated as Minister of Social Affairs by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Tri Rismaharini promised to manage all programs in his ministry including those related to social assistance (bansos).

He conveyed this, because he reflected on the previous experience of the former Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari Peter Batubara, who was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) because of a bribery case for social assistance procurement.

"Frankly, we are doing all of this in a transparent manner," said Risma in a press conference after the inauguration which was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account, Wednesday, December 23.

In order for this promise to be proven, in the future, the distribution of social assistance to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will be carried out in the form of electronic transactions or transfers. This, he said, would be done because it was a direct order from President Jokowi.

"There will no longer be cash or cash in any form, but we will use all transactions electronically," said the former Mayor of Surabaya.

Furthermore, Jokowi also asked Risma to immediately realize the COVID-19 social assistance in the fourth quarter. He even got a target that the first week of January 2021 social assistance for people affected by the pandemic must have been realized.

To complete this target, in the near future the Ministry of Social Affairs will work with the Ministry of Home Affairs, especially the Director General of Population, to improve data on social assistance recipients.

This is considered to be done immediately so that in the future, the social assistance distributed can be right on target. "Because yes, there will definitely be a difference, because today it is being updated, so today there are people who died and moved and so on. That is what we must continue to handle day to day," he said.

As previously reported, President Jokowi has appointed six people to replace a number of ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. Before being inaugurated, they were introduced by President Jokowi as ministers at the State Palace, Jakarta on Tuesday, December 22.

They are Tri Rismaharini replacing Juliari Peter Batubara who stumbled over a bribery case as Minister of Social Affairs, Sandiaga Uno as Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries replacing Edhy Prabowo who is a KPK suspect.

Then, Yaqut Choilil Coumas as Minister of Religion replaces Fachrul Razi, Budi Gunadi Sadikin replaces Terawan Agus Putranto as Minister of Health, and Muhammad Lutfi as Minister of Trade replaces Agus Supratmanto.
