Brigadier General Prasetijo Sentenced To Guilty In The Case Of Joko Tjandra's Fake Road Certificate, This Is The Police Response

JAKARTA - Former Head of the Coordination and Supervision Bureau (Karkorwas) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo, will undergo an ethics trial after being found guilty in a case of false travel documents. This ethical hearing will determine Prsetijo's future as a member of the National Police.

"The Public Works Brigadier General will be followed up with the Police Code of Ethics Commission Session in accordance with Perkap 14/2011," said Head of the National Police's Professional and Security Division (Propam) Inspector General Ferdy Sambo in his statement, Wednesday, December 23.

In addition, said Ferdy, Polri in this case still refers to Article 12 of Government Regulation number 1 of 2003. The regulation states that Polri members can be dishonorably dismissed after a court decision has permanent legal force.

Thus, the ethical trial against Brigadier General Prasetijo is still waiting for the completion of the criminal trial related to the case of fake pass.

"Propam Polri is waiting for an inkrah decision," he said.

As previously reported, the panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court sentenced Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo to three years in prison in connection with a fake pass. Brigadier General Prasetijo was found guilty of falsifying travel documents.

"Sentenced the defendant Prasetijo Utomo to imprisonment for 3 years," said the presiding judge Muhammad Sirat while reading out the verdict at the East Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, December 22.

The sentence of three years in prison was based on burdensome and mitigating considerations. For burdensome matters, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo used fake letters twice, to be precise on 6 and 8 June 2020.

Then, Brigadier General Prasetijo, who at that time served as Head of the Coordinating and Supervision Bureau of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, did not carry out the mandate of the state and instead took advantage of it.

Meanwhile, for relief, Brigadier General Prasetijo has served as a member of the Police for almost 30 years. Then, he has also served a sentence during the trial process.

"Relieve the defendant for almost 30 years claiming to be a member of the Police, considering that because the defendant has undergone the law, according to the provisions of Article 12 of the Criminal Code, he will pay the court fee," he explained.
