Anticipate Extreme Weather, Kemenhub Asks ODOL Truck Intermediate Port Operators To Enter The Ship
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation asked port operators and related officers to firmly reject vehicles that do not comply with the provisions, especially if there are indications of Over Dimension and Over Loading (ODOL) to enter the ship.
This refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 103 of 2017 concerning Regulation and Control of Vehicles Using Ferry Transportation Services.
The Director General of Land Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno in PM 103/2017 Article 2 states that every vehicle and its cargo to be transported using a ferry must be known in dimensions (high) and heavy vehicles.
The ferry port operator is also entitled to refuse vehicles that do not comply with the provisions. Vehicles that do not comply with regulations can be removed from the queue for ticket purchases. Therefore, the ferry port operator must provide a special lane to remove vehicles from the port," said Director General Hendro, in Jakarta, Thursday, December 29.
Hendro asked port operators to coordinate with the police to take firm action against ODOL vehicles.
In the future, Hendro also hopes that the application of PM 103/2017 can be done thoroughly by providing portal and weighing bridge facilities at the ferry port.
"Especially in the current weather conditions, where the weather is prone to bad weather with high waves, the condition of vehicles with excess charges and dimensions will be very dangerous," he said.
Therefore, Hendro emphasized to port operators to prioritize safety when regulating ship loads.
"For shipping safety reasons, I ask port operators and officers to be even stricter in sorting vehicles that will enter the ship so that there will be no more accidents of ships and trucks, especially in unfriendly weather situations like recently," said Hendro.
