Ministry Of Transportation Admittedly There Are Nyemplung Trucks To The Sea At Merak Pier
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation confirmed that 1 truck fell into the sea at the time of vehicle loading at KMP Labitra Karina, at Pier 5, Merak Ferry Port, Wednesday, December 28 yesterday at 20.05 WIB.
The Director General of Land Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno, explained that at the time of loading, trucks were stuck in the rampdoor due to spare tires being stuck.
The truck containing cement is suspected to be Over Dimension and Over Loading (ODOL).
"When the spare tire was taken because the lane was fast enough to cause the truck to break. After the evacuation attempt, it was carried out using a tow truck and pulling it with another truck, but because the truck was stuck in an evacuation situation, it was unsuccessful," said Hendro in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday, December 29, as reported by Antara.
He said, at 22:38 WIB the truck fell into the sea. However, in this incident there were no casualties.
Director General Hendro stated that after the incident, coordination was carried out with a number of relevant stakeholders such as PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Police, operators, and the Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD) Region VIII Banten Province.
He said, the condition of the dock and the movable bridge is currently safe. The truck that experienced the incident carried cement cargo is currently being investigated whether the truck was carrying overloaded or not.
"We have also asked officers in the field to act decisively to trucks that will cross if they are seen violating the limits of dimensions and cargo," he said.
He appealed to those who will travel, especially through crossings, to remain careful and monitor the weather developments that apply every day so that they can anticipate the potential for bad weather.
Hendro also asked entrepreneurs and truck operators to continue to monitor the cargo limits and dimensions allowed when traveling to keep them safe.
