In The Aftermath Of The North Korean Drone Incident Invoking The South Korean Sky, President Yoon Murka To The Minister Of Defense
The incident of the entry of five North Korean drones into the South Korean region angered President Yoon Suk Yeol. He even reportedly scolded Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup.
The minister was angered by President Yoon Suk Yeol after failing to carry out military operations against five drones as quoted by Yonhap News, Wednesday, December 28.
According to information, Yoon met Lee on Tuesday, December 27 morning. Yoon was briefed on the military's response to South Korean airspace abuses by North Korea the previous day.
The drone flew across the Military Demarcation Line separating the two Koreas, with one flying over the northern part of Seoul, but the South Korean military failed to shoot them down.
"How is it that no one is prepared to confront North Korea's drone strike? There have been many similar incidents in the past, so what have you done up to now?" Yoon's hardness during the meeting, according to an official familiar with the meeting.
"Did you say there was no proper training and you didn't do anything?" he continued.
The briefing took place amid a larger meeting held to discuss security conditions with other national security officials, including National Security Adviser Kim Sung-han. Kim and Lee jointly briefed the president on the discussion.
South Korea has now promised to be firm if North Korean drones re-infiltrate their airspace. The president even told his aides to send two to three drones across the border if Pyongyang sent one.
President Yoon also ordered officials to shoot down North Korean drones if necessary, the official told reporters, given the tense situation at the presidential office when five North Korean drones flew South on Monday.
"When the first came down, the president instructed us to immediately take appropriate action against North Korea, saying we also have drones," the official said.
"He ordered us to send two to three people in response to one from North Korea. He gave orders that we should shoot him if necessary and take as many related action as possible."
