PEKANBARU - The flow of homecoming using river transportation during the Christmas and New Year holidays at Sungai Duku Pekanbaru Port has increased by 40 percent.

The increase occurred in the period ahead of Christmas 2022 on Saturday, December 24 until before the new year 2023 on Tuesday 27 December.

"The increase in the flow of homecoming was observed from the increase in passenger arrivals from various regions in Riau, and departures from Pekanbaru," said Head of the Sungai Duku Port Post, Victory, in Pekanbaru, Riau, Riau Islands Province (Kepri), Tuesday, December 28.

He said the increase in arrivals and departures of passengers using river transportation services was recorded entirely from Sungai Duku Port. All of them use 3 fleets that depart every day from the port to the Panjang Strait.

Victory explained that only the Jelatik Engine Ship (KM) fleet immediately went to the Strait Panjang and then transited in Perawang.

"On normal days, only 100-150 passengers took advantage of this river transportation service, but 282 to 302 passengers departed from Pekanbaru and came to Pekanbaru who used this river transportation service to enjoy the 2022 Christmas holiday and welcome the 2023 New Year," he said.
