The KRL Rate Does Not Increase In 2023, Menhub: Rich People Pay According To Their Original Price

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has ensured that the KRL tariff will not increase in 2023.

Previously, there were plans to increase the KRL rate next year. Even so, there is a change in the system where the Ministry of Transportation will apply appropriate subsidies.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the current KRL tariff will not increase next year.

However, for people whose economy is classified as capable, ticket prices will increase by the price of KRL services without subsidies.

"God willing, until 2023 it will not increase. But, later use a card. So what has been proposed is nothing, (the financial capacity is high) you have to pay other (no subsidies). So until 2023 we plan not to increase," he said in a press conference at the Ministry of Transportation's End of Year, 2022 Performance Achievement and Work Plan of the Ministry of Transportation 2023, Tuesday, December 27.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Railways, Risal Wasal, said that there would be no increase in KRL rates. However, it is replaced with an appropriate subsidy mechanism for which there will be a classification of passenger capabilities.

He said that his party would use data from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to find out who was entitled to receive the subsidy.

Still, said Risal, those who are considered financially capable will still pay according to the tariff that should be paid.

"That subsidy is appropriate. It doesn't go up, but we use the data in the Ministry of Home Affairs. So the 'rich' ones pay according to the original price. And the underprivileged receive subsidies," he said.

Risal admitted that the plan would go as planned.

He also ensured that there would be no disturbances faced by passengers.

"We hope this is not complicated. Just trust our data," he said.

Risal said, the subsidy plan will be implemented in the middle of 2023.

"At the slowest in the middle of the semester after the inauguration-official activities. But if we can speed it up, we will accelerate it," he said.
