JAKARTA - The Federal Security Service (FSB) together with the Russian Investigative Committee have thwarted the activities of a group supporting the ISIS terrorist organization, which has sent militants to Syria and Ukraine.
"The Federal Security Service, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation and Service Committee for Financial Monitoring, is dismantling terrorist cells in the Ural federal district and the North Kaucasus, which are the culprits and its 18 members have operated networks covering several areas to ensure support resources for the international terrorist organization ISIS," the FSB told TASS Monday, December 26.
Meanwhile, the Investigative Commission reported that since last December, the head of the cell and 10 members have been detained.
The arrests took place in Dagestan and live in Russia's North Caucasians as well as in Tyumen and the Khanty-Mansifysk Region in Ural. Eight cell members who are currently active as part of ISIS in Syria have been included on the international wanted list.
According to the FSB and investigators, members of terrorist cells, assigned by ISIS agents, have sent militants from Russia to Syria and Ukraine to fight against the Russian Armed Forces, as well as sponsor terrorism and defend terror attacks.
Communication and payment devices, as well as private computers with photo and video recordings uploaded from their participation in ISIS combat operations in Syria and among Nazi units from the Kyiv regime military in Ukraine were seized during searches, the FSB said.
