J-Hope's Funky Rap Treat In BTS's Second Comeback Trailer

JAKARTA - Ahead of the release of the album Map of the Soul: 7 which will be released on February 21, the K-pop group Bangtan Sonyeondan or BTS seems to be routinely sharing several teasers. A new comeback trailer titled Ego was released on Sunday, February 2. If the previous trailer contained Suga, this time it featured J-Hope.

Contrast also what the two main rappers of BTS showed. If Suga's song Shadow sounds dark with heartwarming lyrics, J-Hope seems to show an optimistic and funky side. This can also be seen from the color selection in the Ego video where vibrant colors dominate.

The excerpt from the lyrics "I go back to me of yesterday to the life of giving up, I let myself go away" which is the opening is J-Hope's conviction in seeing himself in the past to the present. Then, he raps with a sense of joy and optimism. Many green screen backgrounds were used in this colorful video.

The release of Ego prompted ARMY to post hashtags #CheckYourEgo and #EgoIsHere on Twitter. Some fans also immediately created #EgoChallenge where they dressed up according to their childhood photos. This relates to one of the scenes in the video where J-Hope poses like his photo as a child.

Previously, J-Hope made his solo debut by releasing a mixtape called Hope World in 2018. The album showcases J-Hope's broader rapping abilities with a stronger musical influence. This album also briefly entered the Billboard charts.

After that, J-Hope launched a collaboration track with singer Becky G in the song Chicken Noodle Soup which was released last year. This trilingual song also includes a sampling of Webstar and Young B's songs of the same title because J-Hope's love for the song.

BTS will release the album Map of the Soul: 7 on February 21, followed by the main track music video to be released on February 28.
