Police Arrest Firearms Thief, TNI Members

JAKARTA - The Sorong City Police, West Papua arrested a man named the pseudonym Epeng (21) for stealing firearms belonging to TNI members.

Kapolres Sorong Kota, AKBP Ary Nyoto Setiawan said the perpetrator was arrested and prosecuted because he also committed various crimes.

According to the Police Chief, the perpetrator washed the bag of a TNI member containing a short-barreled firearm and a number of ammunition and a cell phone.

He explained that the identity of the perpetrator was found to have started when he sold the cellular phone of a TNI member to a collector named Komar (30).

From Komar's statement, the Epeng perpetrator was finally hunted down and arrested. When he was arrested, Epeng was also carrying eight small packs of dried marijuana that were ready to be distributed.

As a result of his actions, Epeng was rewarded with article 363, namely violent theft plus the emergency law for stealing organic firearms belonging to TNI members and carrying them without permission from the authorities with the threat of a sentence of 9 years in prison.

Perpetrators are also subject to Article 170 regarding beatings to the point of death with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

"The person concerned is also charged with the possession of marijuana, namely Article 114 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning psychotropic narcotics with a minimum imprisonment of 5 years in prison and a maximum of 20 years and a fine of 1 billion rupiah," he added. .
