18 Houses In Garut Were Heavily Damaged Due To Soil Movement

GARUT - As many as 18 houses were reported to have been severely damaged due to the disastrous ground movement in Cikelet District, Garut Regency, West Java. All residents must evacuate to a safe place to avoid danger.

"Based on reports, 18 houses were severely damaged," said Deputy Regent of Garut Helmi Budiman, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 21.

He said that the disasters of land movement hit residential areas in Ciroyom Village, Cikelet District, causing many houses to be damaged, such as cracks in the walls of the houses.

According to him, the condition of the land in the area is unstable so that residents who live there must be evacuated to a safe place from the danger of land movement disasters.

"The condition of the land is not possible, that's why there must be relocation, and it needs to be prepared," said Helmi.

Garut Regency Government is ready to relocate the houses of residents affected by the disaster, the movement of the land to a place whose area is certainly not in a disaster-prone area.

While waiting for the relocation process, said Helmi, while residents whose houses were damaged evacuate first, the government is preparing emergency assistance for the needs of refugees.

"The emergency has been handled," he said.

Report from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, land movements have occurred in Kampung Ranca Putat, Ciawi, Cilame, Mareme, and Kampung Cikaroe, Ciroyom Village since Friday, December 18.

It was recorded that 18 houses were severely damaged, occupied by 82 people and dozens of houses were threatened with damage. Meanwhile, residents whose houses were damaged took refuge in the local village sports building.
