AP II Anticipates The Potential For Extreme Weather During Christmas And New Year

PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) as the manager of 20 airports is taking anticipatory steps to be aware of the potential for extreme weather during the Christmas and New Year transportation periods.

AP II Director of Operation Muhamad Wasid said all AP II airports ensure infrastructure and facilities readiness to anticipate extreme weather.

"On the air side (air side), AP II airport ensures that the runway (runway) is always in the best condition to serve flight operations," Wasid said, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 23.

He explained that runway surfaces such as shoulder and runway strips, as well as drainage systems, are continuously maintained and always monitored. Runwaykesat measurements (runway friction tests) are also being carried out.

Other infrastructure on the air side such as taxiway and apron is also ensured to always be optimal.

If necessary, inspections of air side infrastructure will also be carried out outside the existing schedule.

In addition, AP II airport also continues to check and ensure the readiness of flight operational support facilities on the air side, such as the Ground Instrument Approach Facility and Ground Support Equipment.

Meanwhile, AP II VP of Corporate Communications Cin Asmoro said anticipatory steps were also taken to be aware of the potential for extreme weather so that services to passengers were not disrupted.

"Drainage channels must be clean of mud and grass or shrub sediments, as well as drainage pumps ensured to always be in good condition," said Cin Asmoro.

Electricity facilities on the air side, land side, and terminal buildings are also confirmed to be ready to support flight and service operations.

Cin Asmoro added that close coordination with stakeholders was also carried out in anticipation of extreme weather.

The AP II also has an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) procedure to deal with emergency situations, and is ready to activate the Safety Issue Team and Safety Action Group with stakeholders.

AP II airport managed by AP II is Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Banten), Halim Perdanakusuma (Jakarta), Kualanamu (Medan), Supadio (Pontianak), Minangkabau (Padang), Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (Palembang), Sultan Syarif Kasim II (Pekanbaru), Husein Sastranegara (Bandung), Sultan Iskandar Muda (Banda Aceh), Raja Haji Fisabilillah (Tanjungpinang).

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) informed to be aware of the potential for extreme weather during the Nataru period (December 21, 2022 - January 1, 2023).

"BMKG monitors the development of weather conditions throughout Indonesia, where based on the latest weather analysis data that in the next week there will be significant potential atmospheric dynamics that can have an impact on increasing rainfall in a number of parts of Indonesia, especially during the Christmas and New Year 2022/2023 period," explained BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati in her statement on December 20, 2022.
